I was wondering how many combinations of numbers are possible for the mega millions. The first 5 numbers range from 1 to 56. Then a mega ball is drawn which ranges from 1 to 46. (I think) So, is there a factoral or permutation involved to figure out how many possible combinations there are? I think it is 2 operations going on. First there is figuring out how many combinations are possible with just the first 5 numbers. THEN multiply that number by 46. Anyone understand what I mean? Can anyone figure this out? I’m just curious.

I know it seems stupid, but I was under the impression that the numbers had to match exactly in the order they were drawn. They were drawn in this order: 42 39 29 22 16 and the mega ball was 20. In an article I just read on yahoo, they listed in the numbers as 16 22 29 39 42 and mega ball 20. So I’m a little confused. Can the first 5 numbers be in any particular order? They never specify it anywhere! Help!
